Gamescom kicked off today in Cologne, and tucked away in Hall 10.2, something unexpected caught the eye of retro gaming fans. Retro Games Ltd.—the folks behind the C64 Mini and A500 Mini—have quietly dropped what looks to be their next big release. No big banners, no loud announcements. Just a machine sitting there, humming away, looking suspiciously like a full-sized Amiga A1200.

The company did put out a press release yesterday (August 19th), and shared it on Twitter/X, teasing a new system and a moody trailer meant to stir up curiosity. But they stopped short of naming the device outright. That didn’t stop attendees from figuring it out pretty quickly.

Photos from the show floor are already circulating, and yep—it’s the A1200. Not a mini version this time, but a full-sized replica with a confirmed fully working keyboard. And it’s not just for show either. The machine is running a playable build of The Settlers II: Gold Edition, a newly announced Amiga port that’ll be included with the console.

This isn’t the first time Retro Games Ltd. has talked about making a full-size Amiga. They posted a roadmap back in 2023 on Facebook, aiming for a 2024 release. But things got messy. Legal issues between Hyperion Entertainment and other Amiga-related parties put the brakes on production. Manufacturing couldn’t start, and the project went quiet.

Now, though, it looks like things are finally moving. The company says more details will come in October—including pricing and a proper release date. For now, the A1200 is back in the spotlight, and it’s looking more real than ever.

We’ll keep you updated with further developments from the show
